Fine Art Stitching...
This workshop was designed for a week in Paradise at Daku Resort in Fiji- but would be
interesting in any location we would just tailor it to suit local conditions.
This is the brief for Fiji...
Visiting a tropical paradise, capturing the feel of the place, incorporating small mementos…
creating small stitched art pieces... bringing back the dreamy relaxation of the time in
paradise and the satisfaction of learning something new.
We will collect ideas and bits and pieces off the beach, from the market and from deep under
the sea to incorporate in our small hand -stitched art pieces.
Day 1- take a look at our materials and some examples of approaches participants might take
to depict their memories eg pictorial, abstract elements or collaged combinations.
Few sketches to get warmed up
Look at the materials we have brought and discuss possibilities.
Stitch a few sample pieces [the stitching can continue on from here in your spare
moments….and will continue, incorporating each days new ideas.
Day 2- mono-printing and stamping from found objects- a way to get pattern and perhaps
an image of objects onto your fabrics. visit local village
Day 3 –discuss and explore colour theory [don’t get scared this is fun and easy with a few
basic principles] and your personal colour usage.
Day 4 – by now we should have seen the tapa making and brought some back, same for the
pearls and visited the town nearby for perhaps a few local looking fabrics
We will have all the elements for students to start their individual projects with tutor [and
group] support
