Dyeing to Colour your Stash
A day in the garden at my place [or where ever!]. A look at the basics of colour
theory and then dyeing metres and metres of silks- everyone goes home with their
own rainbow of silks.

All about colour
This won’t sound like the most exciting workshop to sign up for, but it will be one
of the most useful you’ll ever do. Through a series of practical exercises and some
fun ‘conversations in colour’ students will gain a greater sensitivity to the nuances
of colour, learning how to  demystify colours for themselves- through experiencing
how to mix colours, how they interact and the apparent changes colours undergo
due to their placement.

Colouring fabrics
We will explore a number of different mediums to colour fabric for students own
creations.
We will look at dyes, pigments and inks and some of the many ways they can be
used and the surfaces you can create. Bring heaps of fabric (mostly cotton, rayon,
silk but I will also make mention of dyes for wool and silk) because this is a hands
on type of workshop.

Patterning on Fabric
A hands on workshop exploring ways of creating exciting, individual fabrics. We will
explore ways to make patterns on fabric, patterning can be done with a few simple
things from the kitchen as well as more involved ‘stamps’, a silk screen and other
methods- all are easy to use and explore once you get started. To this we will add
some pearls of wisdom picked up from  Artisans in Rajasthan, India.
We will use screen printing inks for textiles, with mention made of using thickened
dyes in a similar way.
